Files you should have:
LYNC.EXE - The terminal program
LYNC.DOC - The operations manual
REGISTER.DOC - The registration form
HISTORY.DOC - Revision history
README.DOC - This file
NEWCFG.COM - Configuration translation utility
60LINES.COM - 60 lines per page document reformat utility
Although Lync is relatively easy to use, it is advisable to read the
documentation before starting. If you are experienced with
telecommunications, you could just read the Installation and
Configuring Lync sections in the Getting Started chapter of the
manual, although it is recommended that the Using Lync chapter be read
for a complete understanding of Lync's functions.
If you have a printer and wish to make a hard copy of the manual, you
can copy the LYNC.DOC file to your printer. From the DOS prompt you
would type:
COPY LYNC.DOC PRN
followed by pressing the ENTER key.
The manual is formatted for 80 columns and 66 lines per page with
embedded formfeed control codes so it should print properly on most
printers. However, in order to be compatible with laser printers,
which only support 60 lines per page, a utility called 60LINES.COM is
included. Run this program with the LYNC.DOC file in the current
directory and it will produce a file called LYNC60.DOC. This file
will be formatted for 60 lines per page and should print properly on
laser printers. Print this file as explained above but type
LYNC60.DOC instead of LYNC.DOC as shown in the example.
The manual is also formatted with an eight character margin on the
left so it can be punched and put into a folder without obscuring any
of the text.
LYNC 1.0 USERS!
If you have been using Lync 1.0 (or Simterm 2.0) your CFG file will
have to be converted to the new format used by Lync 2.0. The utility
NEWCFG.COM should be run with your LYNC.CFG file in the current
directory. Simterm users should rename your SIMTERM.CFG to LYNC.CFG
by typing:
REN SIMTERM.CFG LYNC.CFG
followed by pressing the ENTER key.
The NewCFG utility will rewrite your CFG file so you can use the new
Lync without having to reconfigure.
CHANGES
For a complete list of bug fixes and changes to Lync 2.0, you should
view the HISTORY.DOC file. There have been some changes to the
commands in Lync which are as follows:
The Buffer (ALT-B) command has been renamed to Capture and is invoked
with ALT-C. This was done to avoid confusion with the "scollback"
buffers that some other packages offer.
The Capture function now allows you to change the name of your capture
file, rather than just letting you open LYNC.CAP. When invoked,
Capture opens a window and displays the last capture filename used
(defaults to LYNC.CAP), for you to edit as desired.
The Clear screen command (which was ALT-C) has been changed to
CTRL-HOME. This was done for consistency since CTRL-HOME clears the
line in the Input Editor, it is intuitive that it would also clear the
screen.
The Help Menu is now called called with ALT-Z instead of ALT-M. The
ALT-Z combination is easier to hit since the Z key is right above the
ALT key on most keyboards. Getting help shouldn't be awkward.
The Keys (ALT-K) command has been renamed Macros and is invoked with
ALT-M. This is more intuitive since you're editing macro strings not
keys.
The Break function is now included in the menu and is invoked with
CTRL-END (was CTRL-@).
A Host function has been added and it is invoked with ALT-Q. This
function was highly requested and will simplify the exchange of data
between two users.
